ID evolution: The convergence of digital identity, post-quantum security, and next-generation credentials
This session spotlights three of the pivotal trends reshaping the future of identity:
- Digital & Mobile Identity — The adoption of mobile credentials and identity wallets marks a significant milestone in identity evolution. The challenges ahead must be strategically transformed into opportunities, without compromising security.
- Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) — As quantum computing edges closer to practical reality, the identity industry faces a critical imperative: adopting cryptographic standards robust enough to secure identity infrastructures for decades to come.
- Advancing Document Security — Physical world applications increasingly demand higher level of authenticity and security. Emerging technologies, including Infineon’s Chip-in-Paper solution, are bridging the physical and digital worlds to deliver a new generation of credentials.

Digital identity at a crossroads: Why wallets need eID to deliver trust, scale, and sovereignty
Digital identity is at a critical turning point as mobile wallets gain momentum and reshape how users interact with identity services. While wallets promise convenience and user-centric design, they fundamentally depend on trusted, government-issued electronic identities (eID) to provide security, legal assurance, and scalability. Across regions including Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America, governments are reinforcing eID systems as multi-application platforms that enable digital services, financial inclusion, and economic participation. At the same time, international standards such as ICAO 9303 and ISO 18013 are becoming essential to ensure cross-border interoperability and trusted digital credentials. This keynote demonstrates that wallets do not replace eID, but amplify it – positioning eID as the enduring trust anchor of a globally interoperable digital identity ecosystem.

EU Cyber Resilience Act – what does it mean for you?
The EU CRA (regulation (EU) 2024/2847) was published in December 2024. Concrete requirements to market participants continue to come into force between September 2026 and December 2027. Many topics are affected: security assessment, security vulnerability reporting, responsibilities regarding embedded software updates. These have direct consequences, but there are also indirect consequences for portfolio management. The most obvious one for many companies is that they will have to take decisions regarding older products in their portfolio. It should not come as a surprise if a cascade of product discontinuations ripples through various industries. This presentation will provide an overview about the CRA and its effects on various levels, and also point to helpful resources to determine steps forward.

Trust services with the EUDI Wallet
Since 2016, a harmonised market for trust services has developed in Europe based on the eIDAS Regulation. Thanks to CEN and ETSI standards, not only are data formats interoperable, but security levels and audit procedures are also comparable. The amendment to the eIDAS Regulation now imposes numerous new NIS/2 requirements on trust service providers, particularly with regard to availability and the supply chain. In addition, PKI software is regulated by the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), and further new testing requirements are imposed on hardware by the Commission Implementing Regulations (CIR). The presentation will therefore address the question of whether the market for qualified trust services, currently estimated at €400 million per annum, will remain in its current form, especially since signature and identification services will be offered free of charge by government wallet providers from 2026 onwards.

Scaling trust: HSM challenges in the era of the EU Digital Identity Wallet
The emergence of the EU Digital Identity Wallet introduces a paradigm shift in the way cryptographic infrastructures must be designed and operated. Unlike traditional use cases, where Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) primarily protect high-value keys with limited usage, the EU Wallet ecosystem requires managing and operating at scale on an unprecedented number of keys. These keys are no longer rare and static assets, but rather high-frequency, “consumption-oriented” cryptographic objects, used for authentication, signing, and identity operations across millions of users. This evolution raises significant technical challenges in terms of performance, scalability, and lifecycle management. At the same time, the transition toward Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) further increases computational complexity and key sizes, amplifying the pressure on existing infrastructures. In this context, relying solely on HSMs is no longer sufficient. A complementary Key Management System (KMS) layer becomes essential to orchestrate key lifecycle, distribute workloads, and ensure scalability while maintaining strong security guarantees. This presentation explores the limitations of traditional HSM-centric architectures in the EU Wallet context, the impact of large-scale key management and high-throughput operations, the challenges introduced by PQC, and the need for hybrid architectures combining HSM and KMS.

Keynote: CyberWar – Your enemy has no flag
The boundaries between cybercrime and cyber warfare are increasingly blurring. State-sponsored actors, organized criminals, and hacktivists rely on the same technologies, the same infrastructure, and pursue partly overlapping objectives with direct consequences for organizations that have no connection to geopolitical conflicts whatsoever. The talk contextualizes these developments through current conflicts and examines how cyber operations today serve as the first domain of attack, deployed even before conventional measures. It critically assesses the economics of vulnerability trading, the role of false flag operations, and the practical limits of offensive cyber strategies. What this means in practice, participants experience first-hand: with Pay or Pray – the interactive ransomware negotiation simulator – the audience becomes the executive board of a freshly compromised company. The attackers are on the line. Demands are on the table. Do you pay? Do you negotiate? Do you call their bluff? Live-moderated from the stage, the format puts the audience directly across the table from a ransomware gang – and makes viscerally clear what no statistic can: ransomware is not purely a technical problem. It’s a human one.
