Typical PKI applications, such as operating system login, web authentication, VPN authentication, or data encryption, usually require that the user enters the PIN before-hand.
The time a user needs for his PIN enterings during a working day is considerable – let alone the inconvenience caused by this repeated pro-cedure (please check the diagram for a detailed calculation).
For this reason, Single Sign-on is a useful feature. If a user needs to type in his PIN only once to use it with all PKI applications (across application borders), it saves a considerable amount of time and elevates the user-friendliness.
sc/interface cache is an add-on to cryptovision’s sc/interface. It enables cross-application Single Sign-on based on secure PIN caching.
After a user has typed in his PIN at system login, he isn’t bothered with PIN entries any more when using the smart card or token for other purposes.
As a very special feature, sc/interface renders complete support of Windows Universal Platform Applications, including EDGE. Microsoft has approved the methods used by sc/interface for this purpose as compliant with its security policy and has confirmed that this solution is future-proof.
sc/interface cache is configurable. If a PKI application shall be excluded from SSO (e.g., because of policy requirements), this can easily be configured.
sc/interface is extremely powerful. When complemented with sc/interface cache, it becomes even more valuable.
